My BooBoo from my last track outting.

My BooBoo from my last track outting.

Postby Andrew » Sun Oct 16, 2011 7:12 pm

I finally plugged up my cutout so I can hear whats going on. It sounds like front head noise to me but was curious what you guys thought before I started wrenching. Was hoping to get another stab at a PB before the track closed this year. Here is a vid of the noise.

sounds top end to me, not as loud as when my rocker fell off from a broken rocker bolt but same kind of noise. bend pushrod maybe.

I concur, a rocker-related problem.

lifter is my guess but bettter question is what has been upgraded as far as the valvetrain? how many miles on those specific parts? should be an easy fix once the valve cover is taken off

Yeah. Stage 3 heads. Besides the block I can't think of anything thats "stock" on my car. Hopefully intense will sell a single of whatever I need if that is the case...

i dont think they sell springs separately but you should be able to contact the manufacturer for a single if thats the problem.

Took 15 minutes and took the front cover off and checked rockers, springs and rods on that side of the engine and everything looked good... Hope I can find something under the rear cover...

yup, i do suspect a lifter...

it sounds identical to my truck when it had a collapsed lifter. but i didnt have as much knock on my truck (20+ degrees). im assuming the sound is whats making it do that?

Yes, the sound would make it log KR. Bummer.

Another thing that may help while you have the valve covers off - disconnect the injectors and have someone crank it over so you can watch the rockers move, that will give you a good clue if there is a problem. You can even run it briefly with the covers off but some oil may splash around.
